A Gift to Us from France!

Today in the classroom we were very surprised to hear that a gift had arrived for us in the office.  We were very excited to see what it was and opened it very slowly... it was a gift from France from our friends in CM2 at Brindas School. Ashley and Aroha created this iMovie slideshow.

Mystery Skype with Indonesia

Today in class we took part in our first Mystery Skype session of 2016. It was a country that Mr Webb has not even Skyped before - we were lucky to mystery Skype wiht 4A AIS from Jakarta, Indonesia.

We learnt a whole lot about their country - it has a few more people than New Zealand in it. It was a fantastic experience for our students and has left us looking to answer lot more questions about Indonesia. You can click on the link to 4A AIS here.

France compared to New Zealand

We're been learning about New Zealand in comparison to France here as we're working with CM2 from Brindas School in France. As part of this work in class this week we looked at collaborating on a Google Slide with a group of four students from our class. We had to learn a lot about France and then learn some information about New Zealand and where we live. For some of our students it was the first time that we'd worked using Google Slides and the first time we'd learned about France!

New Zealand compared to France

We've spent the week for our AKO looking at comparing New Zealand to France - we're collaborating with our friends from CM2 from Brindas School, France. This group of collaborative work was prepared by Regan, Ashley, Aroha and Tiani.

Monarch Butterfly Slideshow.

Regan today brought into class some chrysalises from the Monarch Butterly. Its the middle of Summer here in New Zealand and there are plenty of Monarch Butterflies around. We were very lucky to have the three chrysalis here and it was a good opportunity to have a discussion about the best way to display pictures of the chrysalis. Regan hadn't made a slideshow before and we use a variety of slideshows on our class page to show off our work - one of which is Kizoa.

BBC Mind Reading Gopher!

Can this really read your mind? In Mathematics today we had a look at this 'game' and looked at the problem solving behind it, how it worked and the equation that are part of the process.   This requires flash player to work.  You can click on the link here.

How many Amusement Parks are in Taranaki?

Our friends from Brindas School in France had a straightforward question for us to answer - how many Amusement Parks are there in Taranaki? The answer is none! There's only really one in the whole of New Zealand! Te Rau was lucky enough to go there during the holidays. This video was created for students in Brindas, France.

Answers for Brindas School France: Part Two

We're nearly finished our first round of answers for our collaborative friends from Brindas School, in France. They've been producing media and questions for us learning about Auroa Primary School and New Zealand. We've already produced a set of answers for them and these videos are the next set.

Q&A for our Friends in France

We had the Auroa School Triathlon - today, the first major event of 2016 for our students. That meant we had only a block this morning to complete our answer videos for our friends from Brindas School in Lyon, France. They've already created a series of videos and questions for us in New Zealand and we're answering some of their awesome questions below - you can click on this link for their original video or here for their class page. Its our first effort in using iMovie for some of our students and we are also collaborating with another class for the first time from another country. This video was created by Aroha and Ashley and answers the questions about what beautiful places are:
This is for Cm2 at Brindas from myles webb on Vimeo.
The girls choose three locations for their answer: Dawson Falls - which is a local attraction, Lake Taupo and a place that Aroha visited during her holidays, Tane Mahuta, the largest and oldest tree in New Zealand.

Paige had a special challenge - she was the only one from her group that was present and needed to complete the task herself - and she did an amazing job.  Her question was about how expensive it was in New Zealand and how much do things cost.
Jamesen's Questions for Brindas School, France from myles webb on Vimeo.
Jamesen and Jackson R had a tricky question related to currency - the students from Brindas School wanted to know what our currency was and also how many Euros it was worth.  Our boys did an amazing job with their video.

Auroa's Friends from France...

Again this year we've got a fantastic collaboration coming with our friends from CM2, Brindas School, in France.  We've started our 2016 School Year just last week and have a new class for the 2016 School Year.   We started today by brainstorming about France and comparing it in size to New Zealand - we discovered that France is twice as big.

We also looked at the populations and compared them - we thought they might be close and then discovered there are nearly 70 million people in France.  Our friends from Brindas School have created an amazing video with a series of questions about Auroa School and life in New Zealand.  We're going to be answering their questions tomorrow before our school triathlon and hopefully posting the replies on our class page here.  If you would like to visit their wonderful page then you can do so by clicking on the link here.

Monarch Butterfly by Paige

Over Christmas we had Monarch butterflies arrive on our Swan Plants (milk weed). So I decided to photograph the stages that they went through. First the Monarch lays its eggs and lots of hungry caterpillars hatch out. It takes about four days to hatch out of the eggs. They ate all the leafs. After two weeks they turned into chrysalis. It took them ages to turn into butterfly. They came out and dried their wings and flew away. These are the photos that I took of what happened.

APS - Group Three Digital Photography

This is the third and final effort of the students of Room Three, 2016 and producing a series of images and photographs taken around Auroa Primary School at the start of the 2016 school year.

APS - Group Two Digital Photography

Digital photography of Auroa Primary School by a group of Room Three students as taken in the first week of School for 2016, February. The students went to a variety of locations around APS with their iPads to take interesting photographs. We used angles and height to create interesting shots and we then edited and corrected some of them. What have we taken photographs of? What objects can you make out? Do you have any questions for the students of Auroa Primary School?

Photographs Around APS

On the 2nd of February, the second day of School Paige, Grace, Tiani, Ellazae, Ella, Ashley, Aroha and Reagan made a slide about our school. They took a series of photos from interesting angles and locations around our School. They then collaborated and put them together in the form of a Google Slide.
