Taranaki Survivor: Episode Nine

The second part of our double episode this week.
Following this weeks earlier episode with Bethanys shock elimination following the first played immunity idol players were on edge. The merge of the two teams was very, very close and there were players in both Whero and Kikorangi desperate to make it through and join with others. Further complicating matters was this game saw the return of the Exiles team, leaving both original teams facing double elimination.

For this challenge teams had to race along an obstacle course holding a cup they had to move over and under obstacles and avoid objects being thrown at them... at the end of course stood a team mate holding a cone which had to be filled to the top, when it was filled the round would be over.
Who would succeed? Who would work together? Could the Exiles who had been so close in the last challenge strike back? Would the Whero losing streak continue? Would another idol disrupts someones plan?  All these questions would be answered in the following episode!

Taranaki Survivor: Episode Eight

This challenge saw a three team competition, with Whero and Kikorangi once again challenged by 'The Exiles' for their spot in the game.  The idea was simple - use the balls to knock the markers belonging to the others teams over, once the markers were all gone, so was the team... it seemed so simple but which teams would align with each other? Could the Exiles force their way back into the game? Would Rico continue to entertain his fanbase in Hong Kong? Will there be spelling mistakes? Would pressure force mistakes from the competitors?

Taranaki Survivor: Episode Eight from myles webb on Vimeo.
This episode featured the most dramatic twist so far in the season with an unbelievable finish! A must see episode of the greatest ever series of blogging internet classroom competitions - the merge of the teams is very close - who will make it to the end and who falls at the final hurdle?

Collaborative Proverb Project With Ireland

This week we are looking at completing a project that we've been very excited to be working on - a collaborative project with our friends from 'If Only the Best Birds Sang' in Ireland. For writing last term we were looking at proverbs, and we looked at Maori Proverbs and their English translation. Our friends in Ireland helped out by providing us with Irish Proverbs, most of which we had not heard before.

We are currently completing a wall display of our proverbs and are looking at sharing them with our friends overseas.

Fetching Dusty - Recount Writing

Students had to complete a recount about an interesting activity that they were involved in during the last school holidays.  This recount was written by Quade from Room Three.

Fetching dusty

Dusty he sprints around the paddock "how long will this take" I screamed. I go get some help "Astin, Mum" "come help" we chase him into the corner"we got him" I said. And he gets away and runs into the mob.

We bring the whole mob down the hill. We let one go at a time. Oh there he is shhh!! I jump I leap oh no!! My hand slipped down his leg.

After 10 minutes of running around the paddock trying to get him. We cornered him. I jump and grab him tight " you're not getting away this time.

Stratford Lamb and Calf Day

On the 26th of October 2015 me and my brother went to Stratford calf day I got in the final for leading but my calf sat down the we had leading there in a row in school teams then got in the final for rearing but I didn't get a placing and I got in the final for dairy type and I got second then we packed up then we put calves in the trailer and went to get an ice-cream then went home.

Jorja's Lamb and Calf Day Recount

Calf and Lamb Day

We arrived at the gate adrenalin rushed down my spine as I was first to go in my leading, at calf and lamb day, grass ripped up everywhere as the hoofs of the calves and lambs dug into the ground.

I walked my lamb over to the start line and led it round the standard placed there in the grass, my lamb did not like the pulling as it was eager to eat grass.

Poo covered the grass and the scent of sausages and lollies covered the air, I tried not to be distracted as my lamb was next up for calling. The judge grabbed my lamb and unleashed it, my lamb Liquorice just stood there with its head held down and eating grass.

I had a great time at calf and lamb day even my lamb Liquorice did not do very well it was great to see everybody enjoying there day, especially me.

Teachers Note: The biggest day for students of Auroa Primary School is Lamb and Calf Day - students are able to bring either animal to school for show and competition.  Our students wrote recounts about this years event.  This is written by Jorja you can visit her blog by clicking on this link.

Taranaki Survivor: Episode Seven

The second part of our double elimination week of Taranaki Survivor.  All the remaining players are desperate to make it to an apparent merge taking place soon... both Whero and Kikorangi have been controlling the game at various points... contestants who felt threatened with the place in the game were searching for a second idol... for this challenge entitled "decimation' the students had a simple task - stack nine blocks and put a tenth block in place to win the game.  It seemed very simple and straightforward... but who would preform during the challenge? who would fail and buckle under the pressure and who would be the seventh contestant to leave the game? All information and these important questions can be answered during the broadcast of Taranaki: Survivor!

Collaboration with Mrs Kriese's Class in Texas

Earlier this year we were lucky enough to have an experience and be able to collaborate with Mrs Kriese and her students in Texas.

Like ourselves they have a main class blog and they have individual student blogs that are listed off the main site.  They've been visiting us again for the 2015/6 School year, leaving comments and being a fantastic audience for us.  If you would like to visit their wonderful site then you can click on the link here.

Taranaki Survivor: Episode Six

This week prior to competition both Whero and Kikorangi had to select a player each for a reward.  Quade was selected from Kikorangi and Teague from Whero - a surprise was install for them because instead of receiving a reward they were forced to switch teams.   In the challenge a further twist awaited - all the eliminated players were back in a team of their own called 'The Exiles'.  In the challenge if the Exiles won, Whero and Kikorangi would both eliminate a member and one of 'The Exiles' would come back into the main game...

Teams had to use a series of plastic chairs to advance step by step over a course and touch a cone based at the end first team to the cone wins - however if anyone fell off the chair then their team would receive a thirty second time penalty.  Would this prove crucial?

SurvivorEpisode6 from myles webb on Vimeo.

Who would be the sixth player voted out? Was Quade, who had to switch teams before the challenge going to play his idol? Had anyone located the second hidden idol? Who would be leaving the competition in the first part of the double elimination? Would 'the Exiles' taste for revenge see them cause an upset?  All will be revealed in Episode Six of Taranaki Survivor!

"Flour, check. Eggs, check" said Aunty Paula as she grabbed those items. "This will taste so good!" I screamed as Aunty Paula put the ingredients in the bowl.

We begin to mix the ingredients together. "Ew! What is that?" I yelled. "It's just the cookie before it takes its shape." Aunty Paula said as she started shaping them into small balls. Soon she will finish, and that means they can go into the oven.

Aunty Paula closed the oven then said "you can either stare at that oven for 10 minutes or you could help me make the next batch of these cookies. "I'd much rather stare at this" I joked as I started helping.

After what seemed like YEARS, they finally were ready. I glared at them. "What's wrong?' Aunty Paula asked. "Well, they look... Different!" I replied. "That's because they have made their shape" she replied. Well then, I can't wait to eat them!

After about 2 cookies, I began to think. "There is probably only 1 word that can describe this...YUM"

Taranaki Survivor: Episode Five

This week teams competed in a two part challenge - they had to answer questions based around some of the classrooms that we've collaborated with from around the world - How many pageviews has Mrs Yollis had? How many people live in Singapore where Mr Kemp is from? Where does Canada rank in country size where Mrs Smith and her Huzzah students come from? How many people live in Texas where Mrs Kriese and her class are from?

The team that answered correctly received a point - then they had to make a crucial choice between two plates- the winner would receive first choice, would it contain chocolate? onion? sweets? A further point would be gained from the player eating the food on offer.  Who would take the challenge? Would there be any forfeits? Would an immunity idol finally be played? Who would be the fifth player to exit the game?  All these questions answered in this episode...

Taranaki Survivor: Episode Four

In our final holiday episode of the 2015 Classroom Competition, Whero and Kikorangi competed in a 'four corners' challenge - racing to four corners of the Auroa School Field to retrieve clues which would allow the teams to assemble a series of eight letter words.  When the teams had all eight letters back they could work to solve the word puzzle... Whero team work had to be questioned as they had lost three consecutive challenges... Kikorangi seemed unbeatable - would this be when the tables were turned? What of the immunity idols hidden in secret locations? Had one been found? Would it be played? This classroom internet series runs until December 20th... one things for certain at the end of the challenge one further player would leave the game...

Taranaki Survivor: Episode Three

The greatest Internet student classroom competition of all time reaches its third episode.

In this challenge Whero were desperate to break a two game losing streak that had seen both Jayden and Ebony eliminated in previous episodes. In this challenge the teams competed against each other and had to lob a rod to one person from their team who was the catcher. The team that scored the most points at the end of the game wins - the team that finished second would have to vote off one member of their team with that person being the third person eliminated. Stakes in the game were further raised when several players claimed to have located hidden immunity idols and intended playing them if they lost...
Who would win? Would Whero break their losing streak? Would an immunity idol come into play? Who would be the third player to exit the game? All these questions are answered in episode three of Taranaki Survivor!

Thursday 1 October 2015

Taranaki Survivor: Episode Two

The second episode of the Internet Only Classroom Competition - Survivor Taranaki! Following Episode One, Whero decided to eliminate Jayden from their team.

Desperate for a win to even the competition up in this challenge both teams had to solve a fifty piece floor puzzle in the shortest possible time - however the puzzle was double sided and also didn't have a regular border.

Who would co-operate with each other and work together? Who would find co-operation difficult? Who would beat the other teams time and send the other team to elimination? One thing is for sure, there are 17 players left in competition and the adventure has to end for someone. No immunity idols have been played, but they're out there and closer than the players think...
