Edublog Awards 2015: Last Chance to Vote Today!

Today's the last chance to vote for the 2015 Edublog Awards.  There are some fantastic sites that have been nominated for the awards and as regular readers of this site will know we are humbled to be nominated and finalists again for 'Best Class Blog' for the second consecutive year.   We're also very excited that Jorja has been nominated for 'Best Student Blog'.  You can vote for the best in each catergory by clicking on the link here. (please note both our class page and Jorja's student blog have a .uk URL in our address that's because we were nominated by a class from the UK it doesn't affect the voting.

Taranaki Survivor: Grand Final Jury Vote

And the winner is... well you'll find out if you watch this post after 9am this morning.

After twenty weeks of competitions, after two terms of action it all comes down to this.  Two players survived an incredible twenty episodes to make it through to the grand final against one another.  One player each from the original Whero and Kikorangi tribes... each of the eliminated players, seventeen in all cast one final vote - not for the person to be eliminated but for the competition winner.

Caro has had more votes against her than any other player in the game and three times came within a single vote of leaving.  She's also won more immunity challenges than any other player and located more immunity idols.  Caro's been involved in some of the biggest blind sides in the game - will that count against her? Will she be able to pull off the ultimate victory?

Grand Final Jury Vote Taranaki Survivor 2015 from myles webb on Vimeo.

Harry on the other hand has had only two votes the entire competition, both from the same player.  He's won the second highest amount of challenges, behind only Caro.   He's tried to eliminate Caro on three occasions and each time she's escaped by a combination of good fortune and skill.  Is this the moment when he finally defeats her? Being the only boy left from episode sixteen onwards seemed to seal his fate - is Harry about to pull off the ultimate victory?

Taranaki Survivor: 2015 Grand Final Caro Vs. Harry

Its all come down to this - two remaining contestants who have made it through to the 2015 Taranaki Survivor Grand Final can now be revealed.
All season all the online polls and information said it would be Harry against Caro - and its come true.  Both are the only original players left, one each from the original Whero and Kikorangi tribe.

Caro has won the most individual challenges out of any competitor - but also has the single most votes of any competitor.  Harry has had the least amount of votes, with only Abby voting against him twice - but he didn't win as many challenges as Caro.  No-one found as many Immunity Idols as Caro - but will the fact she's had a hand in some of the biggest blind sides of the competition count against her? Online polls have both predicted wins? How close will the vote be?

The vote will be revealed Thursday morning... who has triumphed? Who has managed to outwit, outlast and outplay every other competitor to take the grand prize?  All these pressing questions will be revealed in the vote tomorrow morning as we wrap the 2015 season! In the end out of these two incredible competitors only one can claim the title and the other will have to reflect on coming so close to victory.   It all ends tomorrow with the final episode ever of Survivor: Taranaki!

Taranaki Survivor: Grand Final Part 3

All season every online poll for this competition has featured two names at first and second - Caro and Harry, and as it turned out heading into the final part of the final immunity challenge for 2015 these were the two competitors who would decide who would win final immunity.

One of these players would win immunity for the final time and guarantee themselves a spot in the final two.  The other would be at the mercy of the last two votes - the first to eliminate the players to three and the second a single vote to decide who contests the 2015 Grand Final.  No-one had found more hidden immunity idols or won more challenges that Caro, but no-one had more votes against her in the entire game.  Harry had only ever received two votes in an incredible run last nineteen episodes: was this about to come to an end? Would he fall at the final hurdle? One thing was for sure when they went head to head there could only be one winner.

It couldn't be more dramatic than what happened in the twentieth and final episode of Taranaki: Survivor! Who will make it through? Who gets to cast the deciding votes who makes it as far as possible without going all the way? This is the second to last episode of Taranaki: Survivor ever... the end is nigh!

Taranaki Survivor: Grand Final P2

Who would qualify for the very last challenge? Caro had already made it through to the final part of the Grand Final with a win against Mackenna by mere seconds.  In the second round the three remaining contestants Zariah, Mackenna and Harry were looking to advance to the finals.  This would be crucial as the two votes coming up would decide the final two - whoever had immunity would guarantee getting into the jury vote final, and for two contestants it would be the end of the road who would get so close and just miss out.  Who would advance to the finals?
Taranaki Survivor: Grand Final Part 2 from myles webb on Vimeo.

The greatest internet blog competition of all time is about to end - with only Part Three of the Grand Final to come - one player has to make it through and for two the journey is about to end - this couldn't be a more crucial episode of Taranaki:Survivor!

Taranaki: Survivor - 2015 Grand Final Part One

Its finally here! Part One of the 2015 Taranaki: Survivor Grand Final.  The remaining for contestants were racing to be the first person to make it through to the final.  To do so they had to collect four bags of puzzle pieces from the four corners of the school, race to the cricket pitch area and assemble a puzzle that included a phrase and a image... this was the single most important challenge on the entire season, win the first heat and the contestant would go through to the final where the last immunity challenge would have a massive bearing on the finals...

Survivor Taranaki: Grand Final 2015 from myles webb on Vimeo.

This episode saw an unbelievable finish - a fifteen minute challenge went down to the last two seconds between two of the contestants... who would move through to the next round?  Who would have to try again for a spot in the last two? All will be answered in the Taranaki Survivor: Grand Final Part One Video.

Taranaki Survivor: Grand Final Week

It all ends this week - the greatest internet competition of all time!

When episode 18 closed there was no elimination due to a double idol play, leaving four compeditors battling it out to make it through to the grand final jury vote. This week the fate of Zariah, Mackenna and the two players who have survived 18 consecutive episodes, Harry and Caro will be decided.

Three episodes - two consecutive eliminations leaving two competitors vying for 18 jury votes....

Monday and Tuesday the first two part final is going to be broadcast then the final two competitors will be revealed - Wednesday will be the huge vote - all 18 competitors who were eliminated one by one by one will have their say in who the grand final winner will be...

Online voting has consistently predicted a Caro and Harry final? Will this be the case? Can Caro, whose had more votes than anyone in the competition survive another two rounds? Can Harry whose been the last boy left in the game for some time make it through? Can Zariah or Mackenna cause a huge upset? How much does the game play of the contestants come into the final decisions?

All these questions will be answered in the Grand Final this week! This competition is never to be repeated! Part One of the Grand Final has an episode finish that has to be seen to be believed as nothing separates the competitors! Be sure to stay tuned to this blog Monday - Tuesday and Wednesday for the Grand Final!

All 18 episodes can be accessed from the Taranaki: Survivor Tab on the top of this blog.

Edublogs Awards - Best Classroom/Student Blog Finalists 2015

We are thrilled to learn this week that we have been nominated for a very special award - we are one of the finalists for the Best Classroom Blog for the 2015 Edublog Awards.  This is an international award that we have been nominated for and reflects the awesome work that our students have completed during the year.

In addition to this exciting news we also had another nomination for best student blog for Jorja from our classroom in the Best Student Blog.  These are significant awards and we are thrilled for the opportunity and the experience - wonderful to see some of our Blogging Friends and Classrooms that we have collaborated with during the year being likewise nominated.  Please check out the nominee's and good luck to all finalists.

Taranaki Survivor: Episode 18

Only one more episode to go for Taranaki: Survivor!  In this weeks episode the final four contestants of Harry, Mackenna, Caro and Zariah had to compete in a timed trial along a course answering questions as created by fellow contestants Siobhan and Bethany.  The players had to locate cones at different locations based on clues and information and correctly guess answers about the show they were competing in.

Up for grabs was possibly the greatest prize yet offered - a chance to take part in the final episode... there's been twists and turns before in the series but none as unbelievable as what was about to happen in this episode!

Who would make it through to the final three? Whose game would go nearly all the way and then fall at the final hurdle? Who would triumph and make it through? This was the last episode where immunity idols could be played - would the fabled and mysterious 'super idol' of the golden horse make an appearance? Who could you afford to trust? For the second to last time these questions would become obvious once you viewed this exciting episode.

Taranaki Survivor Episode 18 from myles webb on Vimeo.

Spoiler Alert! Don't continue to read this if you don't want an explanation of what happened during the vote!
Harry decided to give his hard won immunity over to Zariah, leaving him vulnerable to being voted off.  Zariah received two votes, from Caro and Mackenna but neither counted.  Harry and Zariah voted against Caro and it seemed as if Caro's game would finally be over.  However it came down to the location of the 'golden horse' immunity idol.  Who-ever had found it first would receive a second chance as votes towards them also didn't count.   Harry had located it and so had Caro - but who was first? Harry had realised the clues pointed towards the School Library but in his first two searches of the School Library he hadn't been able to locate it.  Caro had also realised this however she had searched and located it first time, just ahead of Harry.  As a result the votes for her didn't count either meaning all the remaining players had made it through to the finals!

Answers about NZ for Jazi

We've had a connection with Jazi from 3/4J Liddiard Primary School in Traralgon in Victoria, Australia.  She is researching New Zealand and had a series of questions about New Zealand.  The original post was this (on Twitter).

Room Three at Auroa Primary School decided that we would answer Jazi's questions and provide that information for her.  The first stage of this was to answer her questions and look at supplying the answers in written form.  This slideshow shows some of work from the Room Three students in their scrapbooks as they answer Jazi's questions.

Friday's Water Slide@APS

Last Friday we had an amazing event at Auroa Primary School. Thanks to Mr Chittenden and the Auroa School PTA we had a surprise for students. Some students thought that we'd be having a swim or a polythene sheet on the ground for a water slide - however this was not the case - a commercial 11m water slide had been hired for the students to enjoy. The amazing Mr Bloor our AV star created this video with these highlights.

Taranaki Survivor: Episode 17!

Want to play the same challenge the contestants did? Locate the NZWaikato Kahoot
There's just two episodes remaining of the greatest classroom internet blog competition series of all time! There was yet another twist - there was a Kahoot Classroom competition in class. Not one, but two - in the first the players who'd been eliminated or the players who missed the competition and were presented with an amazing chance to get back into the game; win the Kahoot Challenge and you would be back in.

There was a huge field of competitors for this challenge - it came to the last two questions when Zariah managed to pull out possibly the biggest win of the competition. Following that the players knew Zariah would have immunity for the next challenge - however the challenge followed on straight away. Four players were extremely nervous, the final was no more than two episodes away and everyone was desperate to continue. So much so that after the challenge two idols were played... desperate times and desperate players. Everyone knows that the greatest prize of all time

Taranaki Survivor: Episode 16 - The Final Four Revealed!

Episode Sixteen: "Last Chance for the final four..." Broadcast 30/11/2015
Summary: The final five were about to become the final four with a challenge that would test their nerve.  The premise was simple - a block on the hand, added to and added to as the stack became higher balancing the pile would be more difficult - the first person to topple was out.  Who would rise to the challenge and claim a final four spot? Whose nerve would hold leading to victory? Hosted by fan favourite former contestant (and popular in Hong Kong) Rico, this would test the nerves of the remaining players who had endured sixteen outstanding episodes... once again the remaining contestants would be reduced by a factor of one... one survivor was about to exit the game... or would they? Would another idol come into play? What twists and turns awaited the remaining players? All these questions can be answered in only one way - by watching episode sixteen of Taranaki Survivor!

More Question and Answers for Brindas School in France

Brindas School, France asked us - why don't the students at Auroa School in New Zealand wear shoes at School? As part of a current collaboration that we're involved in Brindas School are learning English and as part of our classroom program we've got a class of students learning French.

If there's one thing that we get asked more than anything else from schools and students overseas its that - why don't we wear shoes at school? If you look at our classroom videos and our school videos the students aren't usually wearing shoes.

To answer Brindas School, Elazae and Aroha from the Auroa Primary School French Class produced this video which helps answer this questions for our friends in France - you can visit their fantastic class page by clicking here.

Brindas School also wanted to know about our technology at school. They wanted to know about the technology that's used by our students whats available and who uses them. They also wanted to know what happens if someone didn't have an iPad what would we do. Mackenna from Room Three went around Auroa School and created this video

Taranaki Survivor: Episode 15

Its episode 15 of the online internet classroom sensation Taranaki:Survivor.  There's only six survivors left in the competition and after this episode we would be down to the final five! In this challenge Harry used his advantage purchased in Episode 14's Auction and was allowed to pair the contestants up with a former contestant - one had to throw a frisbee into a catch area where all four contestants were trying to catch it and receive a point.   Skill, luck and working together would ultimately lead one contestant to immunity - while the others would await their fate...
Taranaki Survivor: Episode 15 from myles webb on Vimeo.

Who would triumph? Who would advance to the final five? The grand final is only a few episodes away - who would fall at the (nearly) final hurdle? One thing is certain the only way that you could answer all these questions is by watching episode 15 of Taranaki Survivor!

Sumobots Vs. Opunake Primary Highlights

This video created by Jayden from Room Two shows every epic battle from the Sumo-bots competition at Auroa School Today. The competition was ultimately won by Zayden from Room Six and Jayden from Room Three.

The students had been building their robots since last term, from scratch.  They were either NXT Lego Robots or EV3 Lego Robots and the students spent their own time creating and refining their robots.  In the end the robots had to face each other in the sumo ring 1 on 1.  The first robot to push the other one out of the ring, topple the other one over, or cause it to loose a part (as happened in the first epic round) was declared the winner.  These amazing highlights were filmed by students from Room Three and edited and produced by Jayden and Ashton.

Taranaki Survivor: Episode 14

Incredibly as it may seem as we are nearing the end of the school year we are also ending the year of various projects, first and foremost amongst them is Taranaki Survivor: which is incredibly already up to episode 14.  There are only seven competitors left at this point, all desperately hoping to make it through to the grand final in the last week of school.  This weeks episode was a auction where the players could use imaginary money to purchase items... would this be a chance to relax? Would this be an elimination episode? There are yet more twists and turns for the competitors as we approach the grand final in a few short weeks! Who would make it through to the next round? Who would fall short? Would there be another immunity idol played? Who would make a big move? All these rhetorical questions might well be answered in episode 14!

Taranaki Survivor: Special Double Episode Part Two

Survivor Episode 13 from myles webb on Vimeo.

Episode Thirteen - Remember when?
We are approaching the end of the year and the end of the greatest competition in online internet classroom blogging Taranaki:Survivor! School in New Zealand ends in five weeks with our school prize giving, school concert and the grand final of Survivor: Taranaki! During the course of the competition there have been 13 eliminations and with idols proving more elusive, with the 'Redemption Idol' having being located twice spots for the contestants and chances to make the final are at a premium.

In this episode, hosted by former contestant Rico, the remaining survivors needed to remember a pattern that Rico would call out and rebuild it in their own space. The challenge took place with up to a ten block sequence.  Contestants had to recall the sequence in order and build their own version returning for a reveal that would send them one step closer towards immunity.  Get it wrong, only once and the challenge would be over.

After this episode one more contestants hopes would be ended leaving a final seven.  Who would step up and recall the facts? Would a hidden immunity idol come into play? How united would the remaining players be? Would the fact that Jorja wasn't present count against her? All these questions would be answered in episode thirteen of the greatest internet blogging competition of all time!

Taranaki Survivor: Double Episode Special Part One

Huge developments during Taranki:Survivor this week - as we approach the finals coming up in just over four weeks.  Firstly during the first episode this week the remaining contestants had to pair up with a previously eliminated contestant and work together by passing throwing or kicking a ball from one location to another.  While it sounded simple, if the ball was dropped, the pair had to go back to the start and start again! This was filmed at the start of the week:
Survivor12 from myles webb on Vimeo.
Who would rise to the challenge? Who would be able to work together? Who would find the challenge too much? With contestants going and continuing to leave the game the winner is going to emerge shortly - who is it going to be? One thing is for certain Episode 12 would see one more player leaving the greatest game in the history of internet classroom competitions!

Answering our friends from France!

We've been very excited this year to be collaborating with Mr Galligani CM2 Class in Brindas School. They've been wonderful helping us with the learning of our French, and they had some questions about Auroa Primary School and School in New Zealand. Taranaki Survivor: Episode 11

Its the halfway point for school in term four, the last term of school - and we're also well over the half way point of our episodic classroom blog competition for the year, Taranaki Survivor! The competition has been fierce to this point, but in a startling development episode 11 turned into a double elimination episode! Catherine had been given a reward earlier in competition in which she had to select a double elimination episode and was intent on doing so in this episode...

Taranaki Survivor: Episode 11 from myles webb on Vimeo.

In this episode entitled 'Blind Mans Bluff' the remaining contestants had to locate an object on a hill just a short distance away... but wait... in a unexpected twist they were blind folded and directed around the course by a contestant from a previous episode... a person that they had directly voted out of the game! Who would rise to the occasion? Who would seek revenge on those who had voted them out? Who would gain the immunity idol? Who would triumph and move one step forward towards the grand final? All these important questions answered in the eleventh episode of the greatest classroom blogging competition online show of all time!

MT SPA Soccer

Thursday saw Auroa Primary School travel to Kaponga Primary School for the 2015 MT SPA Cluster Soccer Tournament.  Auroa Primary School had 8 teams in total competing, two at each of the combined levels for the tournament.

The Y1-2 and Y3-4 teams were runners up in their respective competitions.   The Y7/8 teams from Auroa competed against each other in the finals winning the tournament for the second consecutive year, after the first win in thirteen years last year.

The Y5/6 teams were split into the Victory and the Roar, which featured a number of students from Room Three.  The Victory went through pool play undefeated taking out the Manaia Carvers 2-1, beating Kaponga Primary School 5-0 before winning their final game against Opunake Primary School 1-0.   The Roar also went through into the final undefeated - they beat the Manaia Shooters 4-1 and then the Kaponga Breakers 4-2.  They then had to take on the other two top teams from the pool, the Matapu Meerkats, which resulted in a 1-1 draw, and Opunake Y5/6 second team.  The Opunake team featured two familiar faces - previous Room Three students Kyah and Tyson!  The game also entered in a draw with Tyson stopping a certain goal on full time.  This qualified the two Auroa teams for the final against each other.

The Victory proved true to their name, winning the final 4-1.  It was a tight game with the score at half time being 2-1 to the Victory.  The game also featured the goal of the tournament - Quade took a throw in, bounced the ball off a player from the other team (actually his brother) and then kicked the rebound to score from half way!

Taranaki Survivor: Episode Ten

A shock elimination took place in this weeks episode. Since the start of the game there have been four leaders who were running each of the teams. Rico and Siobhan were in charge of Kikorangi, until Rico organised a blind side and had Siobhan voted out. Caro and Mackenna were in charge of Whero, until just before the merge, Whero eliminated Mackenna.

That only left Caro and Rico, who is proving popular with the oversees audience, as the original team leaders. The teams merged and in a shock development one of the two remaining leaders went out in the first merged vote. Would it be Caro? Would it be Rico? Would Caro's domination of her team lead to the others making her a target? Would Rico's popularity and skill in physical challenges mean that for him the end would be near?

Who would be identified as the biggest threat in the game? Who is the most sneakiest? Who would help an old lady across the street? Who do the remaining players think will win the game?

All these questions answered in episode ten - there's only five weeks to go until the grand finale - who will become the first member of the jury? You can't afford to miss the developments in the most exciting episodic classroom blog challenge competition of all time!

Taranaki Survivor: Episode Nine

The second part of our double episode this week.
Following this weeks earlier episode with Bethanys shock elimination following the first played immunity idol players were on edge. The merge of the two teams was very, very close and there were players in both Whero and Kikorangi desperate to make it through and join with others. Further complicating matters was this game saw the return of the Exiles team, leaving both original teams facing double elimination.

For this challenge teams had to race along an obstacle course holding a cup they had to move over and under obstacles and avoid objects being thrown at them... at the end of course stood a team mate holding a cone which had to be filled to the top, when it was filled the round would be over.
Who would succeed? Who would work together? Could the Exiles who had been so close in the last challenge strike back? Would the Whero losing streak continue? Would another idol disrupts someones plan?  All these questions would be answered in the following episode!

Taranaki Survivor: Episode Eight

This challenge saw a three team competition, with Whero and Kikorangi once again challenged by 'The Exiles' for their spot in the game.  The idea was simple - use the balls to knock the markers belonging to the others teams over, once the markers were all gone, so was the team... it seemed so simple but which teams would align with each other? Could the Exiles force their way back into the game? Would Rico continue to entertain his fanbase in Hong Kong? Will there be spelling mistakes? Would pressure force mistakes from the competitors?

Taranaki Survivor: Episode Eight from myles webb on Vimeo.
This episode featured the most dramatic twist so far in the season with an unbelievable finish! A must see episode of the greatest ever series of blogging internet classroom competitions - the merge of the teams is very close - who will make it to the end and who falls at the final hurdle?

Collaborative Proverb Project With Ireland

This week we are looking at completing a project that we've been very excited to be working on - a collaborative project with our friends from 'If Only the Best Birds Sang' in Ireland. For writing last term we were looking at proverbs, and we looked at Maori Proverbs and their English translation. Our friends in Ireland helped out by providing us with Irish Proverbs, most of which we had not heard before.

We are currently completing a wall display of our proverbs and are looking at sharing them with our friends overseas.

Fetching Dusty - Recount Writing

Students had to complete a recount about an interesting activity that they were involved in during the last school holidays.  This recount was written by Quade from Room Three.

Fetching dusty

Dusty he sprints around the paddock "how long will this take" I screamed. I go get some help "Astin, Mum" "come help" we chase him into the corner"we got him" I said. And he gets away and runs into the mob.

We bring the whole mob down the hill. We let one go at a time. Oh there he is shhh!! I jump I leap oh no!! My hand slipped down his leg.

After 10 minutes of running around the paddock trying to get him. We cornered him. I jump and grab him tight " you're not getting away this time.

Stratford Lamb and Calf Day

On the 26th of October 2015 me and my brother went to Stratford calf day I got in the final for leading but my calf sat down the we had leading there in a row in school teams then got in the final for rearing but I didn't get a placing and I got in the final for dairy type and I got second then we packed up then we put calves in the trailer and went to get an ice-cream then went home.
Teachers note: Students at School in New Zealand like Katelyn compete in agricultural shows with livestock that they have raised.  In Katelyn's case she competes regularly in events outside of schools such as her efforts in this years Lamb and Calf Day at Stratford.  You can visit her blog by clicking on the link to it here.

Jorja's Lamb and Calf Day Recount

Calf and Lamb Day

We arrived at the gate adrenalin rushed down my spine as I was first to go in my leading, at calf and lamb day, grass ripped up everywhere as the hoofs of the calves and lambs dug into the ground.

I walked my lamb over to the start line and led it round the standard placed there in the grass, my lamb did not like the pulling as it was eager to eat grass.

Poo covered the grass and the scent of sausages and lollies covered the air, I tried not to be distracted as my lamb was next up for calling. The judge grabbed my lamb and unleashed it, my lamb Liquorice just stood there with its head held down and eating grass.

I had a great time at calf and lamb day even my lamb Liquorice did not do very well it was great to see everybody enjoying there day, especially me.

Teachers Note: The biggest day for students of Auroa Primary School is Lamb and Calf Day - students are able to bring either animal to school for show and competition.  Our students wrote recounts about this years event.  This is written by Jorja you can visit her blog by clicking on this link.

Taranaki Survivor: Episode Seven

The second part of our double elimination week of Taranaki Survivor.  All the remaining players are desperate to make it to an apparent merge taking place soon... both Whero and Kikorangi have been controlling the game at various points... contestants who felt threatened with the place in the game were searching for a second idol... for this challenge entitled "decimation' the students had a simple task - stack nine blocks and put a tenth block in place to win the game.  It seemed very simple and straightforward... but who would preform during the challenge? who would fail and buckle under the pressure and who would be the seventh contestant to leave the game? All information and these important questions can be answered during the broadcast of Taranaki: Survivor!

Collaboration with Mrs Kriese's Class in Texas

Earlier this year we were lucky enough to have an experience and be able to collaborate with Mrs Kriese and her students in Texas.

Like ourselves they have a main class blog and they have individual student blogs that are listed off the main site.  They've been visiting us again for the 2015/6 School year, leaving comments and being a fantastic audience for us.  If you would like to visit their wonderful site then you can click on the link here.

Taranaki Survivor: Episode Six

This week prior to competition both Whero and Kikorangi had to select a player each for a reward.  Quade was selected from Kikorangi and Teague from Whero - a surprise was install for them because instead of receiving a reward they were forced to switch teams.   In the challenge a further twist awaited - all the eliminated players were back in a team of their own called 'The Exiles'.  In the challenge if the Exiles won, Whero and Kikorangi would both eliminate a member and one of 'The Exiles' would come back into the main game...

Teams had to use a series of plastic chairs to advance step by step over a course and touch a cone based at the end first team to the cone wins - however if anyone fell off the chair then their team would receive a thirty second time penalty.  Would this prove crucial?

SurvivorEpisode6 from myles webb on Vimeo.

Who would be the sixth player voted out? Was Quade, who had to switch teams before the challenge going to play his idol? Had anyone located the second hidden idol? Who would be leaving the competition in the first part of the double elimination? Would 'the Exiles' taste for revenge see them cause an upset?  All will be revealed in Episode Six of Taranaki Survivor!

"Flour, check. Eggs, check" said Aunty Paula as she grabbed those items. "This will taste so good!" I screamed as Aunty Paula put the ingredients in the bowl.

We begin to mix the ingredients together. "Ew! What is that?" I yelled. "It's just the cookie before it takes its shape." Aunty Paula said as she started shaping them into small balls. Soon she will finish, and that means they can go into the oven.

Aunty Paula closed the oven then said "you can either stare at that oven for 10 minutes or you could help me make the next batch of these cookies. "I'd much rather stare at this" I joked as I started helping.

After what seemed like YEARS, they finally were ready. I glared at them. "What's wrong?' Aunty Paula asked. "Well, they look... Different!" I replied. "That's because they have made their shape" she replied. Well then, I can't wait to eat them!

After about 2 cookies, I began to think. "There is probably only 1 word that can describe this...YUM"

Taranaki Survivor: Episode Five

This week teams competed in a two part challenge - they had to answer questions based around some of the classrooms that we've collaborated with from around the world - How many pageviews has Mrs Yollis had? How many people live in Singapore where Mr Kemp is from? Where does Canada rank in country size where Mrs Smith and her Huzzah students come from? How many people live in Texas where Mrs Kriese and her class are from?

The team that answered correctly received a point - then they had to make a crucial choice between two plates- the winner would receive first choice, would it contain chocolate? onion? sweets? A further point would be gained from the player eating the food on offer.  Who would take the challenge? Would there be any forfeits? Would an immunity idol finally be played? Who would be the fifth player to exit the game?  All these questions answered in this episode...

Taranaki Survivor: Episode Four

In our final holiday episode of the 2015 Classroom Competition, Whero and Kikorangi competed in a 'four corners' challenge - racing to four corners of the Auroa School Field to retrieve clues which would allow the teams to assemble a series of eight letter words.  When the teams had all eight letters back they could work to solve the word puzzle... Whero team work had to be questioned as they had lost three consecutive challenges... Kikorangi seemed unbeatable - would this be when the tables were turned? What of the immunity idols hidden in secret locations? Had one been found? Would it be played? This classroom internet series runs until December 20th... one things for certain at the end of the challenge one further player would leave the game...

Taranaki Survivor: Episode Three

The greatest Internet student classroom competition of all time reaches its third episode.

In this challenge Whero were desperate to break a two game losing streak that had seen both Jayden and Ebony eliminated in previous episodes. In this challenge the teams competed against each other and had to lob a rod to one person from their team who was the catcher. The team that scored the most points at the end of the game wins - the team that finished second would have to vote off one member of their team with that person being the third person eliminated. Stakes in the game were further raised when several players claimed to have located hidden immunity idols and intended playing them if they lost...
Who would win? Would Whero break their losing streak? Would an immunity idol come into play? Who would be the third player to exit the game? All these questions are answered in episode three of Taranaki Survivor!

Thursday 1 October 2015

Taranaki Survivor: Episode Two

The second episode of the Internet Only Classroom Competition - Survivor Taranaki! Following Episode One, Whero decided to eliminate Jayden from their team.

Desperate for a win to even the competition up in this challenge both teams had to solve a fifty piece floor puzzle in the shortest possible time - however the puzzle was double sided and also didn't have a regular border.

Who would co-operate with each other and work together? Who would find co-operation difficult? Who would beat the other teams time and send the other team to elimination? One thing is for sure, there are 17 players left in competition and the adventure has to end for someone. No immunity idols have been played, but they're out there and closer than the players think...

Taranaki Survivor: Episode One

Taranaki Survivor: Episode One from Myles Webb on Vimeo.
This is the first episode of the new episodic web-show that students from Room Three will be competing in between now and the end of the school year. A detail application process saw two teams of nine selected (although the rest of the class are featuring in either challenges or behind the scenes!) in team Whero (red) or Kikorangi (blue).

The two teams compete in challenges each week, eliminating one player if their team loses. In this challenge the teams had to complete a course while holding onto a rope - they had to work as a team and locate six markers along a pre-determined course. Every member of the team needed to hold onto the rope - otherwise there was a thirty second time penalty.

Who would work together? Would walking the course work better than jogging it and risk falling over? Who would have victory? Would Whero or Kikorangi be the first to eliminate a team member?

Science in R3: Mould

Senior Maths Challenge 2015

This is a post by Madaline from Room Two who wrote about the Senior Mathematics Challenge that took place at Auroa Primary School Hall on Tuesday.

On Tuesday all the senior classes from Auroa School came  together for a competition to see who was best at doing maths grids and a game called kahoot.

First up there was the grids where four people from each senior class had to complete a 6 by 6 multiplication grid. The fastest time would win. In our team there was Joe, Caleb, Astin and I. It was very hard and I managed to get 100% in the time of 1.10. My sister Jorja got a time of 1.11 so I just bet her. It was a lot of fun and some kids came in a time of 40secs!

Secondly there was the Kahoot competition. Four kids from each senior class has to get some quickfired answers chucked at them and you had to get the right answer out of a multichoice of 4 answers. The only problem was everyone was doing those quickfire answers at the same time so if you got it wrong and they got it right they would be higher up the leader board. Kaiah Bloor from Room 1 took that competition out. Below there is a slideshow of the action.

R3's End of Year Project: Taranaki Survivor

This week its the last week of Term Three for Auroa Primary School. Our students are looking forward to the end of the term break and we have a really important deadline this Friday - the entries from our students for the MOA Awards close on Friday. We've also got the first episodes of our special online episode internet show starting - which is Taranaki Survivor. Mr Bloor, Auroa Primary Schools Amazing AV Man has produced a stunning video which we're going to use as the opening credits. Our students had a first challenge of the show - they had to have a 'serious' face when they were formed for the opening sequence - which wasn't as easy as everyone thought! During the holidays we'll be showing several episodes - apart from being contestants our students are also responsible for the filming, editing, props and planning so everyone is involved including the eliminated contestants. First episode will be released later this week.
