Special mention must go to Mr Gibson and Mr Bloor who stepped up for the parents team in the Y7 competition, who were runners up against an amazing Devon Intermediate team.

Auroa Primary School Vs. Oakura

On Friday 22nd August the second to last round of Taranaki Trophy (Y7/8 Sports) Competition took place at Auroa Primary School.   Auroa hosted Oakura in Netball, Football and Rugby.   Football was a tight game, with scores being tied at 1-1 at half time before Auroa were able to take a win 3-1.

In the rugby Auroa were looking for another strong performance prior to the arrival of St Josephs Stratford on Monday, their final home game.   These highlights, filmed by Kaiah, are of that game.  Oakura are in the red and black and Auroa are in the dark blue with orange.   The game ended up being 85-0 to Auroa Primary School

The other action of the day centred around the Netball.  In it, Auroa were looking for another win to continue their good run of form in the competition, as to date their only defeat had been against St Josephs Hawera in the second round.    Auroa are in the Dark Blue with Orange and Oakura are in the red and black.   The game swung Auroas way early and Auroa were able to claim a convincing 37-5 victory.

The Missing Trans-Tasman Kayak: At Auroa Primary School!

This afternoon thanks to a big supporter of our school, Sanfords, Auroa Primary School students were able to view the 'missing' trans Tasman Kayak of Scott Donaldson.   Scott Donaldson attempted to solo Kayak from Australia to New Zealand, however sadly after 83 days at sea he had to abandon his attempt.   Since then he's been looking for his Kayak, including searching for it extensively, but being unable to locate it.  Today it was found, close to Auroa Primary School.  It was recovered today and brought into school for our students to have a look.  These photos of the craft were taken this afternoon.
You can read about Room Seven writing about the event here. You can read about Room Eight writing about the event here. You can read about Emily from Room One writing about the event here.

Video for Mrs Yollis from Taranaki, New Zealand

This week the Auroa Primary School Kapa Haka Group has been producing a series of videos about games that we've been learning to play in Kapa Haka for our Maori language program led by Mr Tai.  You can see some of our Matariki (Maori New Year) videos and material here.

We posted early this week and we had some fantastic feedback almost straight away from our Blogging Friend, Mrs Yollis in Califorina.   Mrs Yollis is very famous, as she has a class page thats had over one and a quarter million pageviews! Mrs Yollis wonderful comment was this:

One of the things that Mrs Yollis asked was to pronounce the words again so that her students from the USA who want to learn the Maori hand game.

Today we had a small group of students who went and filmed a follow up video to their original post.  We thought about Mrs Yollis request and made sure that we concentrated on speaking clearly and slowly so the students could learn the game properly.   This is the video created by students in Room One, today for Mrs Yollis.

Taranaki Trophy 1/8/14 Vs. Mangorei from Myles Webb on Vimeo.

On a nice sunny day three great games were played to a very high level.   With the Netball Auroa had a win 39-11 in a great game.   Soccer Auroa Primary School won 3-1 and they completed a clean sweep with a win of 69-17 in the Rugby.  In the next round Auroa will take on St Josephs Hawera on Tuesday 5th August 2014. [Lucas].

Last Friday, the first of August, Auroa and Mangorei Schools competed in the Taranaki Trophy competition.   It was held at Auroa School, the netball on the Auroa School Netball Courts.  Auroa smashed Mangorei with a whopping score of 39 to 11.   Auroa gave it their all thanks to Isabelle Cook and Brylee Winter, the fantastic shooters from Auroa.  It seemed that luck was with the Auroa School sides with Auroa winning Netball, Soccer and Rugby.   With a clean sweep for Auroa in the competition we expect big things coming up in the next round. [Kaiah]

These highlights were filmed by Heavenlee during the game.  They were edited by Lucas and Tom.  Filmed at Auroa Primary School on Friday 1st of August 2014.

Taranaki Trophy Vs. Mangorei

Taranaki Trophy 1/8/14 from Myles Webb on Vimeo.

Last friday on the 1st of August Auroa School  and Mangorei School competed in a game of Rugby, Netball and Soccer.  It was round one of the 2014 Taranaki Trophy competition.  All three teams came out with a victory Soccer won 3-1 Netball won 39-11 and Rugby won 69-17.

The is Brylee writing in the style of a TV news anchor about the event.
"Last Friday at the Auroa School Netball Courts an astonishing game of Netball was showcased by two well known teams, Auroa and Mangorei.  In the first two quarters we saw great defence from both sides but Auroas offence was the real star though.  Sending the ball down the court, which was not surprising that the half time score was 26-9 to Auroa.   After a very competitive but clean game Auroa came out on top with a clean sweep and a score of 39 to 11.

In these highlights, filmed by Lucille from Room One, edited by Meg and Brylee, Auroa are in the blue and orange uniforms and Mangorei are in the green.  Filmed at Auroa Primary School on Friday 1st August 2014.

We've spent the day analysing the highlights that were filmed, as we have another game on Tuesday. What do the students recording need to focus on? Should they be recording landscape or portrait? What else could they add to the film to enhance your understanding of the competition or the game?
If you are from overseas have you even heard of Netball?
