Time Lapsed Science Experiment

In Room Three - we've been carrying out some creative and interesting scientific experiments. Last week we experimented with candles and water - you can see what we were doing by watching this time-lapse photography! This week we start our investigation into what was happening and looking at the scientific reason behind it.

Maths Questions for Mr Smiths Class in Australia

Once a week one of our Mathematics Group engages in problem solving on a regular basis. While this isn't particularly unique as lots of classrooms do this we have something a bit different - our 'Rectangles' have input and problem solving with Mr Smiths' Y5/6 Class from Queensland, Australia. That means the distance between the classes is over 3500km! This week we looked at creating Mathematical problems based around our farming. All these questions that we posed are real problems based around the farming in our area.

Brock talks about Dog Agility!

Hi my name is Brock. I do Agility, And Flygility, with my dogs Allie, And Tip. Allie Is a Labrador cross,  Tip Is a Border collie.

Agility Is kind of like a sport, But for dogs!

What Is Agility??? Agility Is series of jumps, turns, tunnels, A frames, weaves, and dog walks, Its

Not always about the time sometimes It can be on how many faults your dog made! What Is a fault??? A fault is when your dog knocks one of the jumps down, Or Muddle up the order of the weaves,

Sometimes If your dog does not behave you get no time or placing. Just Two Weeks ago I went to my very first competition I entered my dog Allie, And My Mums Friend let me use her dog Grace! I was really happy when i found out that me and Grace had come first! But Allie didnt win because she got last for doing a BIG poo In The middle of the course!

R3 Postcards from the UK

Sophie with a Room Seven Postcard - 'touching' the top of the Mountain!
Today in class we had a special delivery - a pair of postcards that had come all the way to us from the United Kingdom.  They were sent to us by our friends from Room Seven, Hopwood School in the UK.  They have be learning about volcanoes for their unit of study and as a lot of you who regularly follow our blog know, we have a volcano that dominates the local landscape - Mount Taranaki!  We were very excited to receive something from the other side of the world - these photos are taken with our own local volcano in the background!
Georgia, Kade, Ellazae, Hayley, Paimarire, McKenna and Sarah with a Room Seven Postcard - Mt Taranaki is between the trees in the background.

The Gingerbread Mission: Part Two

The Gingerbread Mission - Part Two.
Their gingerbread house came to life and turned into a monster.   Nolan said “this was not in the recipe”.  “I kinda used come to life food in it as the secret ingredient” said Elie.  Nolan sighed “look” said Elie “its getting away”.   Nolan and Elie ran after it “it’s heading into the baking competition!”  They saw it eating all the food and getting bigger “that thing has lots of teeth said Nolan.   “This gives me an idea” said Elie “let’s eat it” and so they gobbled the monster up “well we may not win but we did have a good snack” said Nolan “what are you talking about” said the judge “you kicked the monsters butt” “you totally win the prize.  “Hooray” said Nolan and Elie

Mrs Yollis and her class of students in the USA have been creating some amazing examples of narrative writing. This inspired our students in New Zealand to come up with an ending to their work this is Ryan example.

Gingerbread Mission - Nolan and Elie Global Work!

Today in class here in New Zealand we spent time looking at a piece of writing - nothing unusual in that however we were looking at a story written by two students in Mrs Yollis classroom in the USA, Nolan and Elie.    We loved reading their writing in class - we were all given a copy of their writing, we shared it to every student and converted it to a google doc.

We then created a plan for our writing - the story by Nolan and Elie was left at a cliffhanger and our challenge was to end it! When we created the Google Doc we shared it with Mr Webb and also Mrs Yollis.  This created a surprise for our students, because while it was Monday mid-day here in New Zealand, it was Sunday afternoon in California and Mrs Yollis was online and started editing our work.   You can read the original post by the students from Mrs Yollis classroom here and we will be posting our work in the coming days.

Americarna Recount - Georgia

"That car is sick!!!" I can't wait its the Americarna!

It was time to go on the bus.  It was soooo funny on the bus because everyone was singing, they were singing juja on that beat, abcds, wheels on the bus round and round.  It felt like we were singing for ages but we weren't.

Finally we are there! First we have to walk down there, and now were there.  As soon as I looked down the road there was a flash orange car, it was mean, it had big black wheels.  Next there was a pink car, yup - a pink car it was flash as well.   All of the cars were flash they were awesome but the one thing is that it was HOT!

It is soooooo hot it, it was sooo hot I felt like tipping frozen ice over me! Thats how hot it was, I also felt so tired.

The cars were colourful there were lots of orange, red and yellow cars.

It was so funny because there was a skeleton in a car.  It had a cigarette in its mouth and there was also a dog in there.   It was so awesome at the Americarna.

Recount Written by Georgia from Room Three, about the Auroa Primary School visit to Opunake Beach for the 2017 Americarna show.

R3 Mystery Skyping with Australia

Yesterday we held another #mysterySkype - this time with the students and staff from Good Shepard School in Canberra, Australia.  This was a fantastic experience which we found a bit difficult because we didn't know that Canberra has its own state in the middle of another state, making it a bit hard to locate on the map.  Another great experience! If you would like to organise a #mysterySkype with ourselves or another class at Auroa Primary School please let Mr Webb know!
